Guest in Berlin – competing in Bernau
Berlin and its surrounding area is one of the running metropolises – and for more reasons than its world record marathon course. Additionally, the German Championships in the 50 km and 100 km in Berlin and the 100 miles of Berlin, which since 2011 has followed the route of the former Berlin Wall, are particularly important events. High-performance clubs such as the Ultrateam of the LG Nord Berlin, the LG Mauerweg or the Laufpartner are also based in the German capital.

With forest comprising 18.4% of the city‘s area and many lakes and rivers with beautiful riverside paths, Berlin is an ideal running destination. Running events longer than the marathon are also enjoying a rapid rise in popularity. We are pleased to be able to host
the premium discipline of ultra running, the 100 km road race, with a IAU World Championships in the Berlin metropolitan region. The team hotel will be in the heart of the city.

The race in Bernau

The town of Bernau bei Berlin, with its 40,000 inhabitants, is located just to the northeast of Berlin. The flag parade will take place in Bernau’s market square and the opening ceremony in the Stadthallte. Bernau is home to the Bauhaus monument Bundesschule, the second largest Bauhaus building next to the Bauhaus itself. The architectural monument is also home to the Barnim Gymnasium, an outdoor swimming pool and a sports ground. In 2017, the former Federal School, built between 1928 and 1930, was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area at the Bauhaus monument is the center of the event on race day.

From the sports grounds, the running course leads onto the wide, wind-protected Wandlitzer Chaussee. The flat course promises fast times. The 100 km DUV-German-Championships was held September 18th, 2021 on almost the identical course.
In the men‘s category, André Collet won in 6:46:41 hours and in the women‘s category, Katrin Gottschalk in 8:12:03 hours.

Elevation: 72 m – 87 m
Since 2004 Bernau has been a premier venue for races up to 24h. In 2020, as a substitute for the cancellation of German Championships due to the pandemic, the DUV Challenge and various other ultra distances have taken place at the Bauhaus Monument.
